Posted 27 February 2009 - 10:49 AM Law of the Nines released on 09/09/09???? Gimmick much  Anyone want to bet that the sequel will be Law of the Tens released on 10/10/10 followed by Law of the Elevens on 11/11/11. At least we know there can't be more than four books in the series with Law of the Twelves being released on 12/12/12. I also predict the number 9 will appear 999 times in the book Law of the Nines. Perhaps it is a number-that-is-not-a-number, but is evil incarnate. Ooooh I feel a parody coming on.... Detective Richard Nine had his office on the ninth floor of Apartment Block Number 9, on the corner of 9th and 99th Street. He was tired, damn tired as he climbed the steps one by one. Nine steps in all for each flight. Nine flights in all up to the Ninth floor where his office and a bottle of 9 year old whiskey awaited him. It had been a long day of crime-fighting, nine hours long in fact. It wasn't just the crime fighting though, there were the speeches of course. Richard felt like he must have given at least 9 speeches that day. Stupid people - why couldn't they realise just how stupid they were and learn to not be so stupid? Richard was so tired as he reached the ninth floor it was a struggle to continue. It felt like he had not slept for over a week, perhaps say nine days of not sleeping. At least not sleeping well. He still dreamed of her. But that was a long time ago. Nine years in the past and Richard Nine felt like he should be over her by now but he just could not shake that image of her standing there in her white dress, long flowing black hair. So what if she only had nine fingers due to a tragic accident with one of those relighting candles on her ninth birthday. It just made her nine times more special to him. He opened the door to his apartment and waited nine seconds before entering, just in case there was a bad guy waiting inside for him. Being a Detective is a dangerous business and it pays to be careful. Its safe he decides. Detective Nine walks over to the cabinet eager now to pick up the alcohol which would soothe the pains of the day away. Nine steps to the cabinet. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, he never made it to nine. "Hello Richard Nine." said a voice from the door, he spun drawing his gun at the same time. There she was. It was her. The woman of his dreams. The one he dreamed about. The woman I was just mentioning in the paragraph above. About nine lines up, you can check back if you don't believe me. I am nothing if not a master of foreshadowing. Erm, where was I, oh yeah. "Its been nine years Khalan, where have you been? I searched for you for nine straight days without sleep. What happened to you?" "Nine years for you maybe. But it has only been nine days for me Richard! Let me explain, I got sucked into an alternative world by a nine headed hydra who told me I had nine days to accomplish nine impossible tasks. This would then break the Law of Nine which held the world in thrall. But I am not done yet, this is the ninth day and my ninth impossible task has to be accomplished in this world, our world, so I have returned and together we must defeat this evil or the evil incarnate number "999" will succeed in his evil plot to make all the universe his for 999999999 evil years!" "You're one short of ten if you think I'm gonna help you with that lady, I got nine cases on the go, haven't slept for 9 days and need nine quarts of liquor in the next 9 seconds or I'm gonna fall down." "But I need your help Richard, this job requires someone with ten fingers, I only have nine." Kahlan says holding up her hands showing the gap where the middle finger on her left hand used to be, "Or had you forgotten?" she says with tears in her eyes. With a sigh Richard realised he was not going to get that drink or any sleep for at least another eight or more likely nine hours.
